Ronald ter Burg

I am aRtBee, from my initials Ronald ter Burg.  And one can make fun associations with Art and Bee too.  I live in Europe, the Netherlands, and I’m interim manager and teacher / trainer / coach by profession.  Which
implies that English is not my native language – if my explanations are incomprehensible, then it’s me, not you.  And it implies that my daily rhythm is about 6 hours ahead of those living in the New York time zone EST/EDT, in case you wonder why I’m not answering your evening calls.

I started colleges in Math, Physics and IT a very long time ago (1976 to be precise), had great interests in mechanics, fluid motion and advanced computational simulations alike.  When home PC’s became capable of
visualizing those things and more (first half of the ‘90’s) I got hooked into computer graphics, and became the dedicated hobbyist which I still am today.

Since then I’ve played around quite a lot with various software packs, of which some are still around today. POVray, 3DS MAX, Cinema4D, Bryce, Poser, Vue, to name a few, in most cases from version 1 up.  I witnessed an
industry in development, from TRON (1982) to TRON:Legacy (2010), the rise of AutoDesk as well as quite good Open Source products,  the disappearing of local communities and the growth of international ones like Renderosity and DAZ, the route from 8-bit MS DOS 1 on (single core) 5Mhz 128kb machines to 64-bit Windows 7 on 6-core 3.3 GHz 16Gb boxes.  And all ups and downs on the way along. Done it, seen it, been there.  In 2003 I created a prize-winning 3 min short (Merry Go Round) myself.  On my website, the top affiliate link to My Olde Site contains all relevant works up to 2009, my shorts included, in case you’re interested.

Per 2010 I decided to elaborate on my talent to explain complex situations and systems (like 3D software and the use of it) to the community, and to make all information that passes my desk publicly available in a
comprehensive way. My new website is the portal for all that.

I also decided to bring things to a higher level, to focus on Poser and Vue mainly, and to focus on the kind of results I really like.  Which are: dance-alike animations on music, and eCards with toon scenes and characters, both for my website.  But mainly: photoreal large size stills for print (portraits, landscapes).  That’s why I call my hobby: Virtual Photography.  It’s not that much about modeling, but the more on texturing, lighting, posing, hair and clothes, rendering, and improving on the results afterward (aka postwork).

Per 2011 I will launch my iCoach service, providing individual support for Poser, Daz Studio, Vue and Bryce hobbyists at Beginners and Intermediate level, on a no-cure-no-pay basis and on per-issue as well as on
subscription fee structures.
